2023 Reykjavik Marathon and Laugavegur Ultra open registration for non-binary athletes
Participants can now select female, male or non-binary in the entry system for all Reykjavik Sport Association (RSA) running events.
Reykjavik Sport Association is working on creating a better society and now for the first time, a non-binary gender option will be offered in the registration for 2023 events. Registration opens in the beginning of November in Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon, Laugavegur Ultra Marathon and the Suzuki Midnight Sun Run.
The three gender options (female, male and non-binary) will be offered to all participants registering for the Reykjavik Sport Association events. For the first time awards will be given for three categories in the running events.
“We are excited to welcome everybody in our events, regardless of gender, gender identity and gender characteristics. We welcome everybody to our running events,” says Hrefna Hlín Sveinbjörnsdóttir event manager.
Laugavegur Ultra Marathon
Laugavegur Ultra Marathon is a 55 km trail race where runners run from Landmannalaugar to Húsadalur in Þórsmörk. Registration for Laugavegur Ultra is open for a week, November 3rd to 10th. Runners need at least 370 ITRA Performance Index to register. Unfortunately, ITRA (International Trail Running Association) offers only male and female registration as of now. Because of this, non-binary participants may not have ITRA Performance Index, and therefore we encourage them to contact us.
Reykjavik Sport Association is taking the first steps in creating standards for non-binary participants in the events and look forward to learning and doing even better in future projects. RSA has worked with Trans Iceland and Samtökin 78, the National Queer Association of Iceland, to make the events more friendly for everyone.
